CARVER FARMS, P.O. BOX 341, NOBLE, OK. 73068 • 405-428-1037
Ralph and Johnnie Carver purchased Carver Farm in 1968, what first sparked the interest was their sons involvement in FFA. Ralph and Johnnie wanted to invest in an acreage where their family of five could do what they loved the most farming, ranching, and spending time with their family. Carver farm has now been in the Carver family for forty-four years. The property in Lindsay, Oklahoma has grown to a total of 379 acres with over a hundred head of grass fed mother cows. Rick Carver, Rod Carver, and Kay Patino own and operate Carver farm today. The farm has been a beloved family gathering place with many happy memories for the Carver family. Besides cattle they also grow wheat and raise quarter horses. The property is well maintained has several ponds and is a beautiful serene place to be. The Carver family prides themselves in having some of the largest and hardiest grass fed limousin cattle in the state of Oklahoma.
Carver Farms first venture into the commercial cattle business was in 1971. Rod’s dad, Ralph Carver, was the guiding force behind the cattle operation.
Ralph Carver who owned grocery stores had worked as a meat cutter and wanted to raise high quality cattle. He passed this goal onto his son, Rod, who very early was an active member in the Lindsay FFA chapter. Rod also became a livestock judge on the local FFA livestock judging team. His neighbor, Charley Somers’ small herd of Full Blood Limousins, sparked Rod’s interest in Limousin cattle as well as the exhibitions Charley put on which included a high percentage Limousin heifer.
In 1973, Carver Farms AI’d their cows to Full Blood Limousin bulls. At this time Rod was working as a meat cutter for Super C Mart. Rod could immediately tell the difference in the Limousin’s muscling and retail yield. The feed efficiency and growth were also obvious when their cows had been mated to English breeds.
In 2000, Carver Farms began phasing out their commercial cattle and exclusively focusing on the pure bred Limousin business. Rod’s goal was to use select breeding to acquire all of the enviable Limousin traits mentioned above, plus trying to poll their heads and gentle their legs.
Currently, Carver Farms, which is located south of Lindsay, Oklahoma sells 20-30 bulls per year. Rod is very selective about which bulls to keep. Heifers are sold at various consignment sales and private treaty. Carver Farms Full Blood Limousin are produced by the AI sires they own and market semen which include: EAFF Polled Hummer, CFSV Polled Excel, and Dhanis Red Fox. Next spring will bring a new crop of calves out of TSE American Idol.
Rod sincerely believes that the Limousin breed is the best and continuously praises the attributes of the breed. He welcomes your call or visit to Carver Farms.
